the United States, at least 27 people were killed, including 20
children and the gunman at a primary school in Newtown in the north
eastern state of Connecticut, 60 kilometres from New York. A police
spokesman said another body has been found at a location connected with
the incident.
The killer was identified as a 20-year-old son of a teacher at the school.Wearing all black and carrying two 9mm hand guns, the gunman opened fire in the school on Friday morning, sending panic waves around the city.
Connecticut State Police lieutenant Paul Vance told reporters outside the school that the shooter was found dead inside the building but gave no further details.
Appearing shaken by one of the deadliest school shooting in American history, the US President Barack Obama choked up several times as he said "our hearts are broken".
Mr. Obama spoke to Connecticut Governor and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
