Kerala declares entire state as drought affected


Trivandrum:(Newsonair)- Kerala government has declared the entire state as drought affected. A decision to this effect was taken at a Disaster Management Authority meeting chaired by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The state will get Central assistance, as per the representation submitted to the Cente. Central team had visited Kerala last October for an on the spot assessment. Ministers have been entrusted with the responsibility for district-wise evaluation. A proposal to bring all farmers under the Crop Insurance Scheme is being considered by the state government.
Kerala government has also decided to approach Supreme Court to get its due share of water as per the Parambikulam-Aaliyar agreement with Tamil Nadu. This decision was taken by the state Cabinet at a meeting chaird by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy last night.
Kerala Fisheries Minister K Babu said that the state government has decided to extend the term of the Fishermen Debt Relief Commission. He said, the moratorium on loan recovery proceedings on loan availed by fishermen for purchasing fishing implements, construction of houses, treatment and children's education has been extended upto 31st December next year.
