Adequate Quantity of Superior Seed Available for Kharif Season

Adequate quantities of certified and quality seed is available for sowing in the current kharif season.
As against the likely requirement of about 140 lakh quintals, nearly 154 lakh quintal seed is available.

Availability of certified and quality seed of major cereal, pulses and oilseed crops exceeded
requirement. For rice, the most important food crop sown in kharif, 69.2 lakh quintal seed
is available while the requirement is pegged at 62.5 lakh quintal. Among major cereals, there
is slight shortfall in the availability of maize seed.

Among pulses, availability exceeds in the case of urad and moong, but there is insignificant shortage in
the case of arhar. Sufficient quantities of quality seed is in position for major oilseeds grown in kharif
season, i.e. groundnut, soybean, sesame and sunflower.
