“I feel grieved on the sad demise of Shri Asghar Ali Engineer, a renowned scholar of Islam and a great reformer.
Shri Asghar Ali Engineer was a firm believer in secularism, democracy, tolerance and Hindu-Muslim unity. He established Centre for Study of Society and Secularism in Mumbai and made this institution the main vehicle of his mission for Hindu-Muslim unity, communal harmony and promotion of secular values. Shri Asghar Ali was a great protagonist of progressive values.
His death has snatched away from us a great social reformer and an erudite scholar of Islam.
May his soul rest in peace”
