New Delhi:(Page3 News Network)-The Union Cabinet has cleared the Land Acquisition Bill making mandatory the consent of 80 per cent of people whose land is taken for private projects.
In the case of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, consent of 70 per cent of the people whose land is acquired has been made mandatory. The decision was taken in the Union Cabinet meeting headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi yesterday.
The Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari said that the bill will be tabled in the Parliament soon.
In another major decision, the Cabinet cleared the proposal to set up Cabinet Committee on Investment under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister to accord expeditious approval to projects of over 1,000 crore rupees.
According to highly placed sources, all the concerns of the Environment Ministry have been addressed and it would fast-track and coordinate mega projects.
The Cabinet Committee on Security gave its nod to a 2,150 crore rupee proposal on coastal security that aims at preventing any 26/11-type attack. Under the proposal, five offshore patrol vessels would be bought for the Coast Guard for 1,500 crore rupees.
As part of the proposal, 640 crore rupees would be spent on setting up the second phase of coastal security network under which 38 radars would be established to create a near-gaffe free electronic surveillance along the entire coastal area.
The Cabinet also approved a 30 per cent cut in the reserve price for sale of 2G spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Rajasthan that went unsold in the auction held last month. The Cabinet accepted the EGoM recommendation and approved auction of airwaves in these zones.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved a Urea Investment Policy to incentivise fertilizer companies to set up new plants and expand existing capacity.
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure cleared a proposal to enhance the ceiling of 4,000 km of four laning in NHDP Phase-IV to 8000 km on Build Operate Transfer BOT (Toll) mode, based on the traffic justification.
It also approved a proposal for simplification of the procedure for fast tracking the awarding of road projects. This decision will expedite the award of projects which shall result in improvement of infrastructure in the country.
