India emerging as an economic super power:President


Dehradun:(Page3 News Network)-President Pranav Mukherjee laid emphasis on the quality of higher education. He said that lot was to be done in research areas. The President speaking as the Chief Guest of the fourth convocation ceremony of Dev Sanskriti University at Haridwar on Sunday said that along with scientific and technical education moral values too was very important for better society.
          President said that India was emerging as an economic super power. He said that India was third largest economy as far as Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) was concerned. Despite global economic depression India had successfully maintained its economic growth. He observed that one of the reasons behind economic strength of the country was its educational progress and said that it was through education that intellectual resource of the nation and the society was created. The President said that development of skilled labour led to increase in the national production.
 President Mukherjee speaking on the educational development in India said that there were 659 institutions that conferred degrees, while, there were 33023 colleges here. He said that the number of IIT in 2006-07 was 7 which increased to 15 in 2011-12, while number of IIM increased to 13 from 6. "However there is still lot to be done in research," he said adding that the number of application put up for patent by Indians were 6,000 in 2010, while, China had 3 lakh applications.
 Mr. Mukherjee said that Dev Sanskriti University founded by Pandit Sriram Sharma Acharya was successfully imparting training with emphasis on spiritual development and helping in preservation of Indian values and traditions.
 Governor Aziz Qureshi congratulating the students said that receiving degree was not the end of their journey. He said that with the beginning of their new journey they should pledge to work hard for themselves and also think about underprivileged people of the society. He hoped that the outgoing students would contribute in eradicating social evils and maintaining democratic and progressive society far from caste and creed.
 Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said that Uttarakhand was called Devbhoomi for the reason that it was the land of saints and great thinkers. It is also known as land of Shankaracharya where Brahmasutra and other mythological granths were created, he said adding that as per the belief Mahrashi Ved Vyas had written 18 Puranas here only. Mr. Bahuguna maintained that there was no doubt that Sanskirt was the oldest language in the world. He said that the syllabus of the University despite being related to ancient culture was relevant for the modern time. He hoped that the students produced by the University would do some creative works in the coming days.
 University Vice Chairman Dr. Pranav Pandya apprised the audience about the works being undertaken by the University in the field of education. Hindi litterateur Narendra Kohli, Matsuda Yashuhiro and Mecro Ferani were conferred honorary degree. Also present on the occasion were Uttarakhand Education Minister Mantri Prasad Naithani and MLA Sarita Arya.
